Add A Little Sunshine Taggie Toy Tutorial

My teething 7 month old loves to put her gums on anything she can get her little hands on these days.  One particular favorite is the twill tag found on her toys.  So I decided to do a little variation on usual the taggie blanket: a taggie sunshine.  Super easy and cheap (my favorite craft combo obviously).  And apparently pretty cute as well - my husband asked where I'd bought it.  LOL. Here's how to make one :

Using some velour (or other soft fabric) scraps trace a bowl to make to the circles of the sun.  Cut out two small circles from some green velour and a crescent shape from some pink for the mouth & stitched those on to one of the yellow circles.

Cut 4 inch stripss of various washable trims with different textures (twill tape, rick rack, grosgrain, etc.).  I cut 12 strips total so there would be 3 of each type which was easy to alternate in a pattern to make the "rays".  Fold each in half and spaced them evenly with the rough edges of the ribbons and yellow circle matching.  Then pin on the other yellow circle so the right sides were together and stitched around the outer edge, leaving a 2 inch gap for turning right side out.

After turning stuff with filling (I like using bamboo stuffing since it's much fluffier and adds better weight than polyfill).  I also added a large jingle bell I had left over so it makes a nice sound.  Ladder stitch the opening closed and this sun is ready to shine!

This sunshine has become one of my little lovey's favorite toys.  She immediately put her gums on it when she first saw it and hasn't stopped since.  It's usually in the diaper bag when we go out because it definitely keeps her occupied and happy longer than a lot of the other stuff, which is the true test for baby toy success.  Big thumbs up from baby AND mommy!!
