Today I'm happy to share my latest bag design: the Off To Market Bag. A chic bag that is simple to make with all the details of a high end boutique item; fully lined, stylish wooden handles and a magnetic closure. Big enough for shopping, but also chic enough to use as a purse.
I used two lovely prints by Joel Dewberry to make it - Aviary 2 Sparrows and Aviary 2 Damask (both in Lilac). The outer print is a PUL backed cotton, which means it's also waterproof. I'd used both laminated cotton and polyester PUL before, but this fabric was new to me. I got mine over at Just Laminates, my favorite shop for specialty fabric. It has the soft finish of regular cotton, but with a little more body thanks to the thin polyurethane layer on the back. It was a dream to sew with and worked great with the Ultra Firm stabilizer to give the bag a sturdy, yet curved shape.
Using wooden handles & magnetic clasps is really easy and it gives such a nice finish to a handmade bag:
I've been using mine non-stop. It's nice to be able to toss my all stuff right in and open it wide to see everything easily:
