Vinyl Art Solution for Problem Walls: An Icon Wall Stickers Review

Got a challenging room to decorate?  Everyone does.  Our homeschool classroom is mine. The reason? Wood Paneling.  I've loathed it since we moved into our house 10 years ago, but know removing it would a real pain.  Painting it would be too (I painted the other paneled room in the house and can sum up the experience with "UGH").  Artwork is tricky too, since all it's vertical lines make the walls look busy.  The solution?  Vinyl Wall Stickers.

Icon Wall Stickers asked if I'd like to try out one of their designs, so I thought this would be a perfect way to see if I could add some fun to our dated & dreary classroom.  This UK based company offers a wide range of vinyl wall art  - quotes, kid's art, seasonal decorations, custom designs & just about everything else.

They have some seriously cute things for kid's rooms:

And some great Mom quotes for the rest of the house too:

I picked the Classroom Lessons Book design.  It seemed perfect because it showed the teacher/child motif in lots of subjects.  Perfect for our homeschool-style.  It was shown as a border-like design, but I had a different idea for using it.

I picked the lemon yellow & medium size.  Mine arrived less than a week after I placed my order.  It came in a long rolled strip:

I found really useful that each design was available in loads of colors, including metallic finishes, to get nearly any shade you want.  They even have a swatches available so you can see the colors for yourself to make sure it's exactly right.

The biggest plus for me was being able to select size.  While there are a number of vinyl art companies out there, most offer their designs in a single size.  And yes, there are die cutting machines to cut your own, but those max out at 1-2 feet high, so large scale designs aren't an option.  Icon Wall Stickers has a huge range - the design I chose started at x-small at 3.5in by 19.5in & went all the way to a gigantic at 35in by 196in!  And if you're not sure on what size or color will look best you can send them a picture of your wall and they'll mock it up and email it back to you. How cool is that?

I decided to use ours on the plain closet doors - the blandest thing in the over-wooded room. I cut the six "subjects" apart and staggered them on our closet doors:

I followed Icon's directions for removing the backing one section at a time:

I was a bit worried about air bubbles since that can be an issue with vinyl, but their transfer paper was nice & firm so it made it pretty goof-proof.  I smoothed things out with a credit card and not a single bubble!

The designs look nice and sharp & the color really pops against the wood of the doors:

Now we've got some color that keeps the wood walls from swallowing up the room and adds a fun schoolroom touch:

And it represents all the subjects we study: math, science, history, reading - even French my college major!

I'm so please with how it turned out.  I'd definitely use them again.  With all the images, quotes, fun designs of all sort - there's something for every style and for minimal effort.  And the prices are pretty reasonable too.   Thanks for solving our ugly paneling problem Icon Wall Stickers!

I was not financially compensated for this post.  I was sent an Icon Wall Sticker to review. The opinions are completely my own, based on my experience.
