Quilts and More News & Pellon Crafty Goods Giveaway Winner

I'm thrilled to announce that you can find me in the new Summer 2012 issue of Quilts and More Magazine!  My Fresh Start bag is one of the patterned projects available in this issue. All you need are two half yard prints and you can make my tulip-style bag, complete with handy, hidden pockets:
I'm very proud to share this new featured design, since this is my first US magazine project. Quilts and More is a Better Homes and Gardens Publication, so it's a real honor to be a contributor to such an amazing magazine family.  It feels great to be able to pick up this magazine in Joann's and see my own bag design and pattern in it!  You can check out more info on the issue HERE or find it on newsstands and in your favorite fabric & craft shops now:)

  5. Hi,
I bought the magazine last week and love your bag. I just have a question about the pockets-how do you keep things in the pocket if the inside is not stitched closed? Maybe I misunderstood the directions, but it seemed that there is nothing stopping things from going into the space between the body and the lining.

I'm really looking forward to making the bag, but am waiting to hear about the pocket first. thanks so much, so happy to find your blog

    1. Hi Susan,

The bottom and sides of the outer and inner are sewn separately, so the pockets are already made before you sew them together. This keeps each of the pockets completely self-contained - there's no chance of anything going in between the layers. It will be more apparent when you see the material in front of you. Hope this helps and would love to see your bag when it's made!

    3. Hi Cheryl, I am almost finished with the bag, just the handles left and closing the top. BUt when I put my hands in the outer pockets, they go through to the space between the outside and the lining. What am I doing wrong? Which step completes the pockets before sewing the outer and inner layers together as you said above? I feel so incompetent.

    4. Hi Susan, It sounds like you didn't get the overlapping of the layers quite right as shown on pg. 90 in the magazine. When this step is done and the bottom seam for all the layers is sewn the pockets are created. I hope this helps and your bag is ready to use soon:)

  6. Question on the fresh start bag. I purchased the magazine and the pattern does not have the dots on it. How far down from the handle marks do I place the dots?

    1. It appears the printer missed including this marking. The start point of hemming is where the two sides begin to cross when put together, so the dot would be 8.5 inches down from the strap marking. I hope this answers your question and I would love to see a picture of your bag when you have it finished!
