$85 Craft Room Unveiling!

After two years of dragging my sewing stuff to and from my dining room & basement I decided enough was enough and finally set up a crafting room!  We had a small room that was just a catch-all for a lot of random stuff:

Ugh!  Kitchen crap, gardening stuff, there was even a car battery in there (courtesy of my husband).  I saw some potential though, so I made my crafting paradise using stuff I had lurking around and an $85 budget.  After a serious clear out I organized the room into work stations so it would be easy to just get to crafting instead of spending most of that precious time searching for & dragging out stuff.  I'm pretty proud of how it turned out.  So come on in and take a little tour with me:

Here's my sewing nook. The shelves now keep all my sewing books, threads, knitting, ribbons & fabrics in plain sight (using a bunch of canning and storage jars & baskets).

A $20 Ikea table combined with a wheelie drawer unit from my bedroom closet keeps all my notions within while I'm working on my sewing machine.

A $5 Ikea ironing board made hip with a ladybug fabric cover, my old mini cupboard revamped with scrapbook paper + a saucy tote from the $1 section at Michaels:

For making tasty treats & doing papercrafts I've now got counter space to work:

And easy access to all my molds, decorations & tools in an organized cupboard (again with my canning jars and recycled baby formula containers)

Beneath it is counter space to do paper crafts and drawer for all the necessary paper goodies:

This little drawer unit is the perfect home for all the little paints, cards & embellishments:

My drop side counter is now my cutting & assembling station.

The shelves beneath it store all my patterns, ironing & fastening gear.

Using random stuff from around the house with some slight cute-ifying, some $1 section finds and cheap table & chairs from Ikea, my crafting dreams have come true.  It still amazes me that everything is right here & easy to find.  No more sifting through boxes or piles.  There's also the added bonus that when I'm in the middle of a project I can just close the door instead of having to scoop it all up and toss it in a heap in the basement only to drag it all back up in 24hrs.  And besides aesthetically looking better, it's also a lot safer for the soon-to-be mobile baby in the house.  Now I just need to get a bit more time to really break this room in properly...

P.S. Don't forget to add your links to my Craftastic Party!  I'm leaving it open until 12pm Thursday so everyone can add their fab crafts!

  2. Good for you! This is great! I'm still in the stage of dragging my sewing machine to and from the dining room table... hope to have a more permanent place for it at some point.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

  6. Thanks for joining the party. Your space is wonderful and you're right the best part is that you don't have to scoop everything up when you're in the middle of creating.

  9. I love your craft room, and am really jealous. I've finally decided that it doesn't work having my sewing machine upstairs and the only table big enough for cutting and ironing board downstairs, so I'm taking over our guest bedroom, but definitely need some more organised storage space. You've given me some great ideas (and also reminded me that I should give the room a bit of crafty style as well!). Maybe one day I'll have a similar post...

  33. Lucky you! I keep finding myself considering kicking one of the kids out of their room so that I can have a craft room, but it looks like I'll be waiting until they leave for college or something. A tray table is about all I get most days...
