The New Chilly Air Calls For Cuddly Wear

Wow did it go from mild to downright frigid weather quick around here! I love autumn, but the temperatures have been so extreme, dressing myself and the kids has been a challenge. So I was thrilled to see this pattern called Funny Dots in the last issue of Ottobre Design. It seemed perfect for making her something thicker than regular clothes, but not as heavy as a snowsuit. Overall the design is pretty easy to do and looks pretty store bought with all the topstitching. I love how easy it is to get on & off, by just opening the front flap too. The pattern called for velour as a lining and I used my fave OBV (organic bamboo velour), but it was a bit too stretchy against the outer birdy fabric, so the lining is a bit bunchy near some of the seams. Could be I should have paid better attention to the stretch specs though.

The only thing I didn't like about it was, like anything with a lining, you sew the outer & inner inside out and leave a small opening to pull it right way round and then sew the hole closed. They said to do the opening in the side of the velour lining, so it would have been way obvious where this "gap" had been. I just left an opening in the flap part to pull through and it was easily hidden when I topstitched around the outside as directed. I also used velcro instead of snaps as directed, since I've never had luck with hammering in snaps that will get pulled on a lot (they always separate after enough pulls, no matter what I do), but I have a solution to this issue on the way... Overall I liked this pattern though and might make a heavier one for winter or do my new fave thing and modify the pattern to make this into an indoors style romper of some sort.

  4. I have a question for you...do you have a stocking pattern? I really want to make one out of fleece, but haven't found a good pattern yet. Any help would be appreciated! Or if you know where I could look...

    Thanks so much!

  5. Thanks everyone! I'm not sure how I find the time either, just grab it when I can. Brandi, I don't have a stocking pattern yet, but you made me realize I will need to do one for my little lovey's first Christmas. I'll probably put one together next month and would be happy to share it:)
